My name is Luke and I am an experienced guitar player as well as a teacher.
I have written and performed with a number of bands, having even had the privilege to tour Australia playing music. In addition, I have a keen interest in musical theory – particularly when translating advanced theoretical concepts into contemporary guitar styles. I have also completed a Bachelor of New Media Arts degree at James Cook University, where I majored in music.
I spent around four years teaching guitar in Townsville, North Queensland. Starting out as a contractor teaching at a local music store, I eventually decided to start running lessons myself. I’ve had the opportunity to teach guitarists of all ages and skill levels, and have thoroughly enjoyed helping shape their musical growth. I always ensure that I structure my lessons in a way that helps each student achieve their own guitar-related aspirations – playing the music that they want to play.
While the guitar is my primary instrument, I do play a number of others including drums, piano, bass guitar and vocals. I also write and produce music, both my own and for other musicians. This is extremely helpful with my understanding of music theory and songwriting structure, making it easy for me to dissect and break-down songs that my students want to learn, and even to help improve their own songwriting!
I’m currently holding lessons at my home studio in Riverhills, not far from the Mt Ommaney shopping centre. I also offer online lessons via Skype. I’ve worked with students of all ages and levels of experience – from absolute beginners to advanced players, and hold a current Blue Card for working with children.
